Clarion Collection® Hotel Folketeateret

The Hotel Folketeateret is a medium size hotel located in a small mall less than 150 meters from the Central Oslo Train Station. The hotel is in a small mall contains the old opera house and a few very good restaurants. We spent three wonderful days in a upgraded room on the sixth floor celebrating early our 52nd wedding anniversary. It was one of three Strawberry Hotels that we stayed in Norway. Helena with help from Marialena had decorated our room with balloons, strawberries and cake to celebrate the event. Helena of the back office in particular just went out of our way to make our stay memorable. Thank you! All the first floor staff always answered all our questions about Oslo with up to date information and a smile. There is always complimentary coffee, tea and hot chocolate available on the first floor. The room itself contained an oversized bed, three chairs and a combination tub and shower. It was comfortable and despite the rare heat wave in Oslo kept us comfortable. There is some noise from the trams outside that run into the night but even as light sleepers it did not bother us. Daily changing service is by request and the staff were always helpful in providing with extra towels and miscellaneous items when necessary. The cost of the hotel includes two complimentary meals and an afternoon "fika," which is a pancake or cake served with various toppings. The morning buffet was absolutely wonderful both in the quality of the food and the selection of items. Fresh fish, meats, cheeses, fruits and even a wide choice of vegetables all well presented. Be sure and look for the brown cheese. We left every morning pleased and very well fed. The dinner takes place every night from 6 to 8 pm on the seventh floor. I suggest getting there a few minutes after 6 because a rush of people takes place right at 6. The meal includes nightly entrees such as pollock cordon bleu or beef pasta with a wide choice of salads and a great nightly soup. Alcohol and deserts can be purchased at a nominal fee. Kudos to all the nightly staff who work hard to keep guests satisfied despite the fact that most do not provide a tip for a free meal! Overall if ever in Oslo again I will stay in this amazing hotel.  It's a must be place.

We stayed six nights. The location is very good near Stortorvet in the central part of downtown. The main railroad station, Oslo S, with excellent links to the airport and other parts of the country is within a short walk, and a couple of tram lines have stops right outside the front door. Our room was spacious with a nice sitting area and a comfy bed, alas with too big pillows to suit us. The room was quiet and reasonably clean, and the staff we encountered friendly and helpful. As noted by other guests the interior design is slightly unusual. We did not like the lighting system as it did not seem to be possible to turn down part of the spot lights. The a/c system seemed to be impossible to adjust to a comfortable temperature (or simply to turn off) making it unpleasantly cold in our room. Also we noted that no paper tissues were available The breakfast was really excellent with several hot and cold choices of high quality, whereas the included evening meal was less successful and a very uneven experience. Fortunately there are several good restaurants in the surrounding area.

I found my way to the hotel on foot from Oslo Central Station without any problems. The location is definitely great if you want to explore many sights on foot. Otherwise you have the metro, train station and buses nearby and ferry connections from the harbour. My room on the seventh floor was very quiet and clean. The bed was large, soft and fluffy. There was no safe in the room. At breakfast, which was in the Grilleriet restaurant, there was a very large selection and also really good multigrain bread. Dinner was on the seventh floor. I found the room a bit too small, but the food was good. Check in and out was quick and the staff were very friendly.

I have been traveling for business in Eurasian continent since 2006 , i have never had such an experience in any great hotel brands --- these place is outstanding! Receptionist made us smile and be splendid with his service and professionalism

This hotel is really convenient for the station, but not on top of it - about a 5-10 minute walk. It is located inside an arcade where you will find the theatre and some cafes. The hotel really has Norwegian hospitality licked. They really looked after guests with their coffee in the lobby, afternoon fika, and if you want, there is simple food available in the evening as part of the deal. The breakfast is very good, but there is no fresh egg cooking going on. Other than that there is pretty much everything you would want for a breakfast with excellent smoked salmon and graved lax We were allocated a standard double room (319) and it was small but probably normal by Scandinavian standards. It was very warm, and you could not adjust the air conditioning much in April. The shower was sort of wet room system, and as there was no door, it soaked the floor of the bathroom if you had the shower at height and had anything other than a very quick soak. Towels are small. Only cosmetic was liquid soap. Rooms are only cleaned on request, but that is only a problem if you stay more than one night. If you are staying more than one night, the lack of room may be an issue as there is nowhere to unpack - no shelves, cupboards or safe. There is a small amount of hanging space but only enough for a couple of days. It would work better as a short stay business hotel. There is a tram/bus stop outside the hotel and the very useful number 12 tram goes right by. It was simple to get to most of the major Oslo tourist locations. Don't think about driving, as there is no apparent place to leave a car. There are plenty of eating places in walking distance, but the better ones get full quickly and it seemed to be normal for a decent place to be full at 7pm any night of the week. Don't forget that eating out in Oslo can be very expensive, and even a low end proper restaurant will set you back £60-70 per person for a modest meal. There is decent wifi, a small desk area if you need it, and a small television, mostly showing local channels. I found the bed a bit too soft and the pillow a bit uncomfortable, but that is a personal thing, and my wife had no problems. The hotel staff were very helpful, and most of them spoke good English. We had to miss Saturday morning breakfast to catch a flight, and the hotel gave us a brown bag breakfast for our journey, which was just as well, as food in the airport is very expensive.
