In the true-to-life musical Come From Away, we follow several individuals during a week that changed their lives forever. When the need is greatest, help is closest. This is something a number of people experience when they suddenly find themselves stranded in a small town on a remote island in eastern Canada.

On September 11, 2001, the airspace over the U.S. is unexpectedly closed, and 38 airplanes are forced to land at the nearly forgotten airport in Gander, Newfoundland. Suddenly, 7,000 people are stranded on Canada’s easternmost outpost in the Atlantic, in a small town with only 10,000 residents. Tired, hungry, and anxious, the passengers finally leave the planes after more than a day. Where have they ended up? How long will they have to stay? What has actually happened in the U.S.? Are their loved ones safe?

For our production, the beloved director, actress, and comedian Sissela Kyle is in charge. To describe Come From Away in her own words: “It’s unlike any other musical. It’s about helping each other. About actually assisting your fellow human being in a vulnerable situation.”

Come From Away is based on real events. All the characters in the musical have a real counterpart, and the costumes are inspired by what people wore on those particular days.
