How does Green Stay work?

Every time hotel guests choose to forego housekeeping services, we donate money to our Climate Fund. The fund was launched in April 2022 to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in our organisation, but also to finance the development of climate-friendly solutions within the hospitality industry. Thanks to the climate-friendly choices made by our guests between April and December 2022, we were able to donate 17 million NOK, which resulted in 28 investments into projects to reduce carbon emissions in our existing hotels and to support several startups developing sustainable solutions for hotels.

Ongoing projects

Climate projects at our hotels

Green Stay has allowed us to initiate several projects for a greener organisation! At Clarion Hotel® The Hub in Oslo, a 250-sqm solar cell installation on the roof will generate around 30,000 kWh of electricity per year. This will save around 11,100 kg of CO2 per year, the equivalent of four laps around the globe in a car!

There will be a similar solar cell installation on the roof of Quality Hotel™ The Box in Linköping. This is expected to generate around 42,000 kWh of electricity per year, which is roughly 4% of the hotel’s total energy consumption. The project will thereby result in an equivalent CO2-saving of roughly four laps around the globe in a car or 15,624 kg of CO2 per year.

Ongoing projects

At the Quality Hotel™ Friends in Stockholm, 280 sensor-controlled shower mixers will be installed to reduce water consumption. The project is expected to save 300,000 litres of water per year, and it will also reduce energy consumption since less hot water will need to be heated. This in turn translates into a CO2-saving of 4,200 kg per year.

The estimated CO2-saving of these projects is the equivalent of ten whole laps around the globe in a car, and that is based on just three of the 28 ongoing projects! It is thanks to the great support of our hotel guests during 2022 that we are able to contribute to a greener future.

Partnership

In partnership with ClimatePoint

The savings also enable investments outside our own organisation. Two funds have been set up in partnership with ClimatePoint: Food & Agrotech and Buildings & Construction. Through these investments, we support startups and entrepreneurs developing sustainable solutions within hospitality, both for today and the future.

Our goal is for our own organisation to be climate-neutral, and we want to achieve a 50% reduction in emissions in our value chain by 2030. Let’s make a difference together!
