We had booked Hotel 13 for our holiday vacation months ago, excited to visit Bergen. The reservation was confirmed. TODAY, 20 days before we were supposed to arrive at Hotel 13, they messaged us to inform us that our reservation was CANCELED because they would be closed for the Christmas holiday. And, they took the liberty of moving our reservation over to another hotel. They claimed the other hotel "had nice rooms" and the reservation would be "at the same rate" - as if they were doing us a favor by canceling our hotel reservation and finding us another room at a hotel that was ranked more poorly (and available online at a lower rate - such a scam!) I find it hard to believe that Hotel 13 did not know - until 20 days before - that they would be closed for the Christmas holiday. They should have never taken the reservation to begin with, or at least given us ample notice to find another hotel room ourselves. Poor customer service.

This hotel was a fantastic find. It offered warmth and peace and quiet for our first trip to Bergen. The staff were amazing and helpful. The decor is funky without being over the top. I’m so glad we chose to spend our time here and recommend it to everyone. The beds were really comfortable and the towels were huge. What more could we want…..maybe more tv options but that’s it.

Not bad but PLEASE give us proper bathroom doors...

Great location, fresh and clean rooms yet on the smaller side. What's with the thing with no proper bathroom door!? Breakfast selection ok-ish (one of us liked it, one didn't). Check-in and -out was smooth. Friendly staff. Why no free-to-loan umbrellas (but rather pay for) in a city as rainy as Bergen?

Location: It's literally in the middle of Bergen, at Torgallmenningen, the square that's often described as the heart of the city. Taxis can't get right to the door but it's just a few meters to walk to the nearest taxi stand, and (obviously depending on your physical shape) you can walk from the hotel to quite a few of Bergen's attractions. There are heaps of shops, restaurants, bars and night clubs just a couple of minutes walking in all directions. There are also lots of bus stops nearby and it's an 10-12 min walk to the main bus station and the train station is right next to that. No 13 is a small hotel, with 34 rooms/suites. Some face the square and some face the backyard - I chose a deluxe double which faced the square and had a little balcony, on the 5th floor. Check-in/Reception: The reception is also the bar/restaurant. The colour palette includes pink and purple which makes me very happy. I was checked in by a lovely lady who told me about breakfast etc and directed me to the lift. Entering my room I found a note welcoming me in a very nice way, and two chocolates, and a hotel that mind those details gives me joy. The room: L-shaped, very spacious, with more pink and purple! As I entered the bathroom door was on my left. Straight ahead there was a seating area with a couple of nice chairs, a low table and a coffee/tea buffet. Turning left a bed that was *insanely comfortable*, and enough pillows. If I was to be really critical I'd want a night stand that was a bit larger as I struggled to keep my book, my phone and a bottle of water on the space provided. On the wall left of the bed (the bathroom on the other side of the wall) there was a desk and another, more office-looking chair. A minibar - with a bottle opener, very good - kept my drinks and foodora leftovers cold, and there were blackout curtains for all the windows. As I was here in November I didn't get to use the balcony, but there was also a basket with a blanket and small pillows for the balcony chairs. If I *was* going to use the balcony I probably would have taken the one stool from the seating area because the chairs looked tiny and frail and I would have wanted something a bit more solid - I realise this has to do with space, but you could easily fit a couple of small stools instead of the cafè variety chairs. The bathroom: Warm and toasty! Nice warm floors and walking in I just knew that I wouldn't be freezing when I stepped out of the shower. Two large and two smaller very fluffy towels, a hairdryer and various kits provided - among those a sleeping kit containing a sleeping mask and earplugs. The shower itself was huge, with both a rainfall and handheld option. The water pressure wasn't enormous, but more than good enough. All the soap/shampoo etc smelled sooo nice and fresh! Breakfast: Seeing as this is a small hotel the breakfast buffet is also rather small, but that doesn't mean you won't have your breakfast needs met. Hot and cold varieties, information on options for dietary needs etc. As I was checking out I overheard a couple picking up Too-Good-To-Go bags which I assume was from the breakfast. I love this as a reduction of food waste. Other: Everything was nice and clean. I can't speak for the backyard facing rooms, but for my room facing the square there was definitely noise from the night life (I was there over a weekend). It doesn't bother me so I didn't use the provided earplugs, but it will surely be an issue for some people. Check-out: I tried to check out via the app, but that didn't work. When I went down to reception the very nice gentleman behind the desk informed me that this would improve soon because they are changing the app, before he checked me out with a smile. Apart from a couple of very minor details I had a lovely stay and I hope to check out their Signature Suite at one point - it looks sooo cool.
