Clarion Collection® Hotel Gabelshus

The staff are the highlight of this wonderful hotel. From reception to those in the dining room, all were so friendly, welcoming and attentive. We enjoyed the food variety and quality, it felt comfortable and welcoming like staying at someone’s home. I would travel to stay at this hotel again.

Pleasant staff. Unfortunately poor cleaning in the hotel room. Thick layer of dust in several places. Stains/fingerprints on bathroom walls. Not properly washed in toilet. Disappointing.

We stayed at the Clarion Collection Hotel Gabelshus for three nights as a group of six. Nestled in the tranquil Frogner area, surrounded by elegant villas, the hotel offers a peaceful and safe environment. The hotel's interior boasts an old British country living charm with a Laura Ashley-style touch, which contrasts with the typical Nordic minimalism. This might appeal more to those who appreciate traditional aesthetics rather than modern designs. The rooms were spacious. Our deluxe double room in the renovated section featured a box spring bed with an acceptable mattress—comfortable but not extraordinary. The in-room coffee and tea machine and ironing board were appreciated conveniences. However, the cleanliness of the rooms could be improved. We noticed some dust and dirt in the corners, especially in the bathroom, though it wasn’t overly dirty. The small bathroom had a functional shower, but we encountered drainage issues causing minor overflows. Despite the renovation, some parts of the room were already showing signs of wear and tear. The superior rooms, which haven’t been renovated and have less desirable views, were still spacious but less attractive. We had both breakfast and dinner at the hotel, included in our stay. While some reviews praised the food as better than that of Oslo’s restaurants, our experience did not align with this. The buffet-style meals were decent but not exceptional, with limited vegetarian options and a small selection of 4-5 dishes. The dining area had a cafeteria-like feel, which might not suit everyone. Additionally, you need to approach the waitstaff for drinks, as they are busy with table upkeep. It was adequate but not to our taste. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The dining room staff worked hard to maintain cleanliness, and the receptionists were welcoming and helpful. The hotel's location is a significant asset. Being outside the city center ensures quiet nights, ideal for restful sleep after sightseeing. For those exploring Oslo, the hotel offers a good balance of comfort and affordability. We recommend dining out for a more memorable culinary experience, as Oslo has some of Scandinavia’s finest restaurants. Overall, the Clarion Collection Hotel Gabelshus is a solid 4-star option with room for improvement, particularly in cleanliness. It’s a good choice if you value a quiet environment.

I recently stayed at Clarion Gabelshus. Unfortunately, our experience was marred by several inconveniences that overshadowed our visit. Location and Food: The location of the hotel is indeed good, providing easy access to various attractions. The half-board meals were satisfactory, offering a reasonable variety of options. Cleanliness Issues: Our major concern was with the housekeeping services. We had requested full cleaning of our room, but by 3 pm, it still wasn't done. After complaining at the reception, we were assured it would be taken care of. However, when we returned at 6:20 pm, the room was still not cleaned, and we were told it was too late for cleaning that day. This lack of timely service was frustrating and disappointing.There was no real apology from the staff for this oversight. Misleading Booking Information: Another issue we encountered was the misleading information regarding our child's stay. The booking stated that children under 2 years old stay for free, but upon arrival, we were informed this only applied if our child shared our bed. Requesting a cot incurred an extra charge, which was not clearly mentioned during booking. Reduced Amenities: Additionally, we noticed the removal of basic amenities such as ground sheets and tissues, which added to our dissatisfaction. It seemed as though the staff were perhaps incentivized to minimize cleaning and amenities, which detracted from the overall experience. In summary, while the location and food at Clarion Gabelshus were commendable, the service and clarity regarding amenities left much to be desired. We hope the management addresses these issues to improve future guests' experiences.

Another wonderful stay at this quiet & charming hotel. Lovely, helpful, professional staff - front desk, kitchen, cleaning. The hotel has a gentle & quirky vibe to it. Excellent location - tram 3 minutes away or walk downtown in 15 minutes. We've come for years & will happily return.
