The town of Son
Son is an old town located just less than an hour south of Oslo and was first mentioned as early as the 14th century. Son was an important harbour between the 16th and 19th centuries thanks to its central position along the Oslo fjord. It's also where you'll find the fjord's deepest natural harbour. The village is characterised by small, tightly packed wooden houses and charming, narrow alleyways. During the 20th century, Son become recognised as an artist town, something which is still apparent today from its many studios and galleries. Today Son marina is now one of the most popular in Norway, and you can still see perfectly preserved old wooden boats and historic buildings.
Hiking trails
From Son, you can hike through undulating coastal terrain, passing beach after beach down towards Moss, where the coastal path continues southwards. This is a simple but very popular way to experience the scenery. Feel free to ask us about the best walks in the area.
