Clarion Collection® Hotel With

We had an excellent stay at this hotel and were lucky to see The Northern Lights in early September. Rooms were small but warm and comfortable. There was no fridge or safe. Our TV had no reception. Both the breakfast and evening meal had an excellent selection of foods. We upgraded to a room with a view of the harbour which was nice. Friendly staff and front desk staffed 24 hours. There was also a gym and a sauna.

We chose this hotel for the excellent view the rooms offered over the harbour. The hotel is clean and functional and suited us perfectly for a weeks stay. Room temperature was adjustable and heated up quickly when needed. Comfortable armchairs and welcome addition of a fridge which we used after stocking up on snacks at the local supermarket. We used the complimentary food service in the evenings and was impressed by the well cooked meals offered. If we return to Tromso we would stay here.

The hotel is blatantly lying about their amenities! During an unusual heat wave in Tromso we spent time searching on Expedia (on our own and to ensure accuracy with an Expedia representative) for a hotel that that has air conditioning. The hotel lists as amenities provided air conditioning, which was also confirmed by the Expedia representative with the hotel before we made the reservation. At check in, we learned that there is no actual air conditioning in the rooms, only a centralized confort system, which doesn’t really do anything. It was late in the day, so we took the room, only to have a really unpleasant 4 nights. Top that with the fact that the hotel is quite old and poorly maintained, kitchen closed (had to walk across street to another hotel for breakfast) and this stay in their pricey “exceptional” room was totally not worth and a scam.

Old stuffy room , no kitchen service , the upgraded room were so small that there was no cupboard space, no ventilation system, very old carpet, very slippery bathroom floor (old matt tiles) Kitchen was closed during entire stay. Room service is done once in every three days. Very small double beds. Lobby was dated dark and overall very depressing.

So glad I paid a bit more for a Deluxe room! Elevator goes to the 5th floor. Then, steep winding stairs lead to a very large 6th floor room in the building peak. We had a wonderful view of Tromso Harbor and the mountains! Double doors with glass windows open to a French balcony. When open, a very nice breeze. When closed, block out most noise from the Harbor area. (Note: don't leave the doors open very far - the seagulls will fly right in!) We had a big double bed with plenty of pillows and duvets. Small nightstands, each with 2 lamps. Easy chair with a table and good lamp for reading. Lots of overhead lights. Large desk with chair, lamp, and hot water pot for making coffee or tea. Large comfortable couch, coffee table, small fridge, and large flat screen TV. Bathroom was roomy, with single sink, toilet and shower. Buffet breakfast with lots of choices, mid-afternoon cake (different each day) with tea or coffee, and evening dinner with hot and cold selections are all included. (Note: our hotel was experiencing 'technical issues' and the restaurant was closed. But, across the way, the Clarion Hotel Aurora provided all the meals.) Front desk is staffed 24 hours, and they have a small bar with adult beverages for a fee. The hotel, and the area, seems safe and secure. We looked at a couple of standard rooms, and they were small. The standard rooms would be OK for an overnight stay, or a single person.
