Avalon Hotel

Beautiful rooms that feature modern art and design, spacious bathroom, fantastic breakfast, and very helpful staff. Hotel restaurant is excellent. Central location.

The Avalon is ideally located in front of the food market, in a pedestrian area in the centre of the city. Rooms are exceptional in that they have the bathtub placed squarely within the room, which is not just playful in itself, but it also makes the room feel larger, more colourful, and definitely different. Our bed was very comfortable, and every detail was well thought of, from the dressing gowns and (colourful) slippers to the toiletries, the do-it-yourself desk, the small balconies opening onto the market square. The breakfast was delicious, very complete, and served in the luminous restaurant on the ground floor. A wonderful stay at great value. I would definitely stay at the Avalon again.

I’ve reviewed Avalon before as I have stayed numerous times. It’s always my go to choice for my stays in gorgeous Gothenburg. It was the same this time, I loved it and can’t wait to be back! If I’m really being picky, the WiFi was weak this time and kept dropping out which was quite annoying. Time for an upgrade? See you soon Avalon!

Out first time in this hotel, but we have stayed many times in hotels owned by the Strawberry group. This was probably one of the best hotels we have stayed at. The hotel is 20 years old so, quality and workmanship is much better than what you find in the newer hotels. The rooms are a good size and robes and slippers are provided. Even though, the hotel in spite of its age, it appears as modern, fresh and well-maintained. The breakfast is plentiful, and the location is excellent, central and close to everything. The bathroom was very clean, neat and modern with luxury toiletries, the only one thing missed was a body moisturizer! I would recommend this hotel and would stay there when back to the city.

I really enjoyed by staying at Avalon hotel even though there were a couple of things that I think could have made the stay perfect. The hotel is located in a quite central part of Göteborg and it is a relatively modern, but compact building where a lot of art of all kind is visible, outside and inside, scattered through the whole hotel. The reception is small but welcoming, with some nice area with a fireplace where one can sit down. I came quite late in the evening and the staff at the desk was definitely friendly and helpful. However, the one that welcome me at my staying did a mistake with my Strawberry membership although I did ask to check if I was registered with it and was dressed, let's say a bit peculiar, which didn't get through unseen. The hotel room was quite spacious with smart solutions for getting a desk and the comfort of a bathrobe and a bath tub (in the middle of the room/bathroom. Although original, it didn't disturb me that the bathroom area was almost one piece with the room. I thought rather it was more annoying that there were two armchairs that were taking a bit of space when one wanted to use the desk. The shower was comfortable and there was a good amount of towels and space in the bathroom for leaving all one items. Talking of that, the wardrobe was also spacious and practical. The bed was comfortable and the room temperature quite good, which made the sleep nice. A bit disturbing was the sound from the street. That was a bit loud compared to other hotels. All together the room was pretty clean. However, I found behind the "bathroom" curtain some leftover from the previous guest. I promptly put it in the trash without analyzing what it was, but I didn't find it very appealing that some "hidden" corners in the room were not properly cleaned. The breakfast was not huge, but collected, and the atmosphere of the restaurant is very nice. I found everything anyway that I wanted for breakfast (which usually is not that much) and I enjoyed that I didn't have to walk kms to get the food and back to my table. I would prefer to get some proper and nice tea cups and original teas. Otherwise, everything else I tasted, from the juice, the smoothies, the fil and the pastries, was just perfect. I will definitely come back to this hotel. With it special theme, the comfort, the location and the amenities it can become a favorite when in town.
