Nordic Swan Ecolabelled hotels at Strawberry
When you stay at a Strawberry hotel with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, you know that the hotel operations meet its strict environmental and climate requirements. You enjoy the same high level of comfort, service and experiences, while the hotel actively works to limit its environmental and climate impact. Behind the scenes, this means that the operations follow criteria that are audited by an independent third party. The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is the official ecolabel of the Nordic region, developed with support from the authorities in all Nordic countries.
Achieving the Nordic Swan Ecolabel means that a hotel operation must meet a wide range of strict and mandatory criteria.
That is why we at Strawberry are especially proud that operations at as many as 241 of our hotels are certified with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. Only operations, goods and services that meet these set requirements are allowed to carry the Nordic Swan Ecolabel – one of the most established environmental certifications in the Nordic region.
Please note that spa operations are not covered by the Nordic Swan Ecolabel criteria and are therefore not included in the certification.
Among other things, the label sets requirements for resource efficiency, energy use, chemicals and waste management, which contributes to reducing the environmental and climate impact of the operations.
All this makes the Nordic Swan Ecolabel a central and independently certified part of our environmental and climate work.
What it means to be certified with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel
A hotel is like a small community – and with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, you as a guest or corporate customer can feel confident that the hotel operations meet independent environmental and climate requirements. The certification sets high standards both for what you see as a guest and for what takes place behind the scenes.
This means that when you stay at a hotel with Nordic Swan Ecolabel-certified operations, you get more than comfort and quality. The operations are governed by strict requirements covering energy use, reduced chemical use and much more. For companies, it facilitates the process of choosing certified suppliers for conferences, meetings and overnight stays.
Three of the biggest environmental impacts in the hotel industry are energy, water and chemicals. The requirements of the Nordic Swan Ecolabel ensure that hotel operations actively work to reduce their impact in these areas.
What this means in practice:
- Meals are served without disposable items in daily dining.
- Hotel rooms and common areas are cleaned with eco-labelled products that reduce the use of unwanted chemicals.
- Efficient waste sorting ensures that as little as possible goes to waste and as much as possible is reused – from the restaurant and conference facilities to the hotel rooms.
- The hotels work actively to prevent food waste, so that more resources are put to good use.
... and much more. See the full list here.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why has Strawberry chosen the Nordic Swan Ecolabel?
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is a natural choice for our environmental work. According to the Nordic Consumer Sustainability Index, 81% of people find it difficult to know which choices make a difference. At the same time, 96% of people across the Nordic countries recognise the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, making it a clear and reliable signal for our guests.
The certification provides independent third-party verification that our hotel, restaurant and conference operations meet strict environmental requirements.
Please note that spa operations are not covered by the Nordic Swan Ecolabel criteria and are therefore not included in the certification.
Why is it important to set requirements for energy and climate?
Strawberry chooses the Nordic Swan Ecolabel to show that we take our environmental and climate responsibility seriously. Certification requires hotel operations to reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. This means lower electricity consumption and a ban on heating with oil or fossil gas. In this way, the certification contributes to more energy-efficient hotel operations.
Why is it important to set requirements for water consumption?
Water is a limited resource and should be used efficiently. After use, water is usually treated at a municipal treatment plant – a process that requires both energy and chemicals. Saving hot water is particularly important, as heating it consumes a great deal of energy.
Why is it important to set requirements for organic food?
Achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals requires a transition to more sustainable food and agricultural systems. Organic farming focuses on ecological balance, local ecosystems and biodiversity. Therefore, the Nordic Swan Ecolabel sets requirements for purchases of organic food and drink in hotel operations – you can read more about the specific requirements here
Why is it important to set requirements for waste sorting?
Hotels, restaurants and conferences generate waste, and the Nordic Swan Ecolabel therefore sets strict requirements to minimise waste volumes. At Strawberry, waste sorting is integrated into our operations, allowing materials to be sent for recycling. We also have routines and equipment in place for sorting waste in common areas and guest rooms.
