WeCare

Local Community Responsibility

Small and large projects across the Nordics

We are proud to stand up for what we believe in, and we weave our social responsibility into daily operations by doing more for our guests, our employees, and the communities around us. With over 250 hotels across the Nordics, we have a unique opportunity to make a difference locally – and we believe that everyone can contribute in some way. That’s why we work to create real change in the communities where we live and operate.

The people of Strawberry are at the heart of this work. Through our internal WeCare fund, employees can apply for support for local initiatives that give back to their neighbourhood. In this way, we create value for local communities while also building pride and engagement among both employees and guests. For us, it’s simply about being a good neighbour.

The Good Neighbour Fund

The Good Neighbour Fund is all about empowering communities and fostering positive change. With a fresh pot of funding (1MNOK) waiting to be utilized, we challenge our hotels in coming up with ideas and initiatives that breathe life into neighborhoods and spark innovation. To apply, a project must have a clear impact within one of these three areas we have set as a criteria. These can vary every year.

So far, there are over a hundred applications in total.

Strawberry for UNICEF

Key to the Future

Strawberry has partnered with UNICEF in various ways for nearly 20 years. Today, the partnership has two clear strands: Key to the Future, our long-term initiative focused on supporting children and young people who have fled war and conflict, and 50FORLIFE, which can be activated during humanitarian emergencies.

With Key to the Future, Strawberry is building on this long-standing partnership with a particular focus on helping children and young people who have been forced to flee war and conflict. Strawberry employees helped choose this as the company’s core cause.

“At Strawberry, we have colleagues from all over the world. Some were born and raised in the Nordics, while others have fled conflict-torn areas and been given the opportunity for a new start here. We will support where we can, and our doors will be open to people who need a second chance,” says Torgeir Silseth, CEO of Strawberry.

50FORLIFE

When a humanitarian emergency occurs, Strawberry can activate 50FORLIFE. Through the initiative, guests and members can contribute to UNICEF’s work for children and families affected by war, conflict and crisis.

How does 50FORLIFE work?

  • Donate Spenn: Members can donate Spenn, which is converted into a monetary donation to support UNICEF’s work in the affected country or region. Strawberry matches each member’s donation.
  • Donate directly: Guests and members can add 50 kroner or more to their bill as a direct donation to UNICEF.

Christmas gifts for those in need

Every December, all our hotels take part in the “Lonely Christmas Tree Looking for Presents” campaign, collecting gifts in our hotel lobbies. The aim is to spread joy and help children and adults enjoy a brighter Christmas.

Each hotel partners with local organisations of their choice, ensuring the gifts go to children and adults who need an extra reason to smile. Find out how you can join in here!

Proud main sponsor of Pride in the Nordics

For Strawberry, equal worth for all is a given – and one issue especially close to our hearts is LGBTQIA+ rights. That’s why we’ve proudly been a main sponsor of Pride in the Nordics since 2015. Celebrate Pride with us in Oslo, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Copenhagen, and Helsinki, as well as in many of the other cities where we’re present.
