Ski areas in Åre

Åre offers some of the most varied ski terrain in Scandinavia – from long carving runs and challenging black pistes to wide, family-friendly slopes. In Åre town, you’ll find the pistes directly beneath Åreskutan and a lively mountain atmosphere, while Rödkullen tempts with playful slopes and areas for both children and adults. Björnen is ideal for families, with gentle pistes and cosy forest sections, whereas Duved and Tegefjäll offer more relaxed skiing in peaceful surroundings. Whatever your level, you’ll feel the mountain spirit from the very first turn.

On the slopes

Restaurants, cafés and après-ski

When it’s time for a break from the slopes, you’ll find plenty of restaurants and cafés mid-mountain – perfect for stopping by for a hot chocolate or coffee, a satisfying lunch or something freshly baked pastries, all with sweeping views of the winter landscape. After a day on the skis, après-ski in Åre is almost a given. Here you’ll find everything from classic live music to dancing, cold beers in the winter sun and a fantastic atmosphere.

  • La Gondola

    La Gondola sits right on the slopes at the bottom of the VM8 lift and offers a menu full of Italian flavours. Enjoy well-crafted cocktails and a selection of drinks as well.

  • Hummelstugan

    Hummelstugan is a classic mountain restaurant, serving lunch, treats for the traditional Swedish fika, and a range of drinks. Take in the sweeping views of the surrounding peaks and valleys.

  • Timmerstugan

    At the base station of the VM6 lift, you’ll find Timmerstugan – a warm, rustic spot perfect for a lunch break, a drink or a pause between runs.

  • Bagarstugan Bistro

    At the bottom of the Björn lift, Bagarstugan Bistro serves well-prepared dishes made with traditional mountain ingredients in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

  • Verandan

    Verandan is located right in the centre of Åre, just a few minutes from the cable car. Here you’ll find one of Åre’s most iconic après-ski venues, with live music, dancing and DJs.

  • Fjällgården

    Fjällgården is perhaps Åre’s most classic après-ski spot, offering live music, a dance floor and a lively bar scene – right at the top of the funicular from the village, close to both the slopes and hotels.

  • 720

    720 is the place for high-energy après-ski, situated just above the Åre Snow Park. When the weather allows, the party moves out onto the large terrace, creating a great atmosphere.

  • Årehyddan

    Årehyddan is one of Åre’s most legendary après-ski venues, known for its focus on live music – located right on Stjärnbacken, just a short stroll from the mid-station of the funicular.

Getting here

How to travel to Åre

Train: Take the train to Åre Station, located right in the centre of the village. Both daytime and overnight trains run here – perfect if you’d like to wake up to a sparkling winter landscape.


Flight: If you prefer to fly, you can travel via Åre Östersund Airport and reach Åre village in around 1 hour and 10 minutes.


Car: If you’re driving, you can reach the village via the E14, and there are plenty of charging stations available if you’re travelling by electric car.
