One sight not to miss is Kärnan – the city’s most iconic landmark and one of the most popular attractions in Helsingborg. The medieval tower is the last remaining part of Helsingborg Castle and offers sweeping panoramic views of the city, the Öresund Strait and Denmark. Walk up the well-known Terrasstrapporna stairway and enjoy the views along the way.

In the city centre, charming cafés, wine bars and restaurants line Kullagatan and Bruksgatan. For coffee and something sweet, try the long-established Fahlmans konditori, the 1950s-style Ebbas Fik or Café 1886 in Zoégas’ historic café and shop.

Dunker's Cultural Center

Dunker's Cultural Center (Dunkers Kulturhus) in Helsingborg is a natural meeting place for art, culture and events right by the sea. Designed by Danish architect Kim Utzon, the building sits on the seafront promenade close to Norra hamnen. There is something to discover here all year round, from exhibitions and concerts to theatre, talks and activities for children.     Gröningen in Helsingborg is a popular seafront promenade stretching north from the city centre, with open views across the Öresund Strait to Denmark.

  • Along the way, you pass green parks, bathing jetties and several popular swimming spots, including Tropical Beach, Fria Bad and Pålsjöbaden – ideal for a dip or a pause in the sun during the summer months.

Sofiero Palace and Gardens lie just north of Helsingborg and make an ideal excursion during a weekend break, with leafy walking paths, interesting exhibitions and lively events. On your way back into town, it is well worth stopping at the cosy Brödkultur 2.0 – the perfect place for coffee and freshly baked buns after a day out.

Fredriksdal Museums and Gardens is a green oasis where history, nature and culture come together in a unique setting. Here, you can wander among historic houses, an old town quarter and flower-filled gardens – all within one of Sweden’s largest open-air museums. For families, the animals are a real highlight, making the visit both fun and educational. Throughout the year, exhibitions, activities and family-friendly events also make Fredriksdal an ideal day out for adults and children alike.

Take the ferry to Helsingør for the day

The ferry between Helsingborg and Helsingør is a popular day trip in the Öresund region. The crossing takes around 20 minutes, with Øresundslinjen ferries departing regularly from central Helsingborg, making it easy to combine a stay in Helsingborg with a day in Denmark.


In Helsingør, you can visit sights such as Kronborg Castle/Elsinore Castle, the setting for William Shakespeare’s legendary tragedy Hamlet, wander through charming cobbled streets and take a walk along the harbour. The city also has plenty of cafés and restaurants, where you can enjoy classic Danish smørrebrød, open-face sandwiches. If you feel like shopping, you will find both small independent shops and a more international feel, while The Culture Yard (Kulturvæftet) by the water offers culture, exhibitions and events.
