Discover Klaksvík

Welcome to Klaksvík – the Faroe Islands’ second-largest town, set by a harbour on the island of Borðoy in Norðoyggjar (the Northern Isles). Surrounded by mountains, fjords and open sea, it is an ideal base for exploring the northern Faroe Islands.

Harbour life and Faroese identity

Klaksvík is closely connected to the sea, and the harbour area shapes both the townscape and its atmosphere. In the centre, you will find shops, cafés and small meeting places that make it easy to explore the town on foot. One of Klaksvík’s most distinctive landmarks is Christianskirkjan, a modern church with striking architecture and strong symbolic value, dedicated to the memory of Faroese seafarers who lost their lives during the Second World War. The town centre is continually evolving, and the cultural centre Varpið serves as a central venue for concerts, performances and other cultural events. Together, this gives Klaksvík a clear coastal cultural identity.

Nature and outdoor activities

Just minutes from the town centre, the landscape opens up with green mountain slopes, narrow valleys and views of the surrounding islands. The popular hike to Klakkur is known for its panoramic views over Klaksvík and the nearby islands, offering an accessible experience for many. Here, you will find the classic Faroe Islands atmosphere: wide open spaces, rapidly changing weather, and a landscape shaped by shifting light. Combine a relaxed morning in town with an afternoon outdoors – distances are short, but impressions are lasting.

Gateway to the Northern Isles

Klaksvík serves as a natural hub for the Northern Isles. Via the Norðoyatunnilin, the town is connected to the wider road network of the Faroe Islands through an undersea tunnel between Borðoy and Eysturoy, making it easy to travel onwards between the islands by car or bus. In addition, a ferry operates from Klaksvík to Kalsoy – a classic day trip for those wishing to experience one of the most distinctive islands in the north. Together, the harbour, tunnel and ferry connections make Klaksvík a practical base for exploring the Northern Isles and the surrounding areas.

Restaurant, spa and conference facilities

In Klaksvík, you will find a comfortable setting that brings together dining, wellbeing and meeting spaces. Here, you can stay with access to a restaurant, spa and conference facilities, providing a convenient base whether your visit is for business or leisure. With close proximity to both town life and nature, the surroundings invite relaxed breaks, good meals and gatherings in functional and professional environments.
