From the hotel it’s just a short walk down to the harbour where you’ll find the waves, boats and seagulls sounding in perfect harmony. Go ahead and explore the old pharmacy building, Ibsenhuset, where Henrik Ibsen wrote his first play, Catalina. Knut Hamsun also has a strong presence in the city, having written several books here.

Since Knut Hamsun once walked on the mountain above the hotel, it had to be preserved, so a tunnel was drilled through it instead. Now you can easily walk through a tunnel from the lobby to the various hotel rooms. In the tunnel, you’ll find information about the history of Fuhr AS, Norway's wine cellar that held barrels with up to 2 million litres of wine.
