Would you dare check in to one of Helsinki’s most haunted hotels?
This Halloween, you could win a stay at Home Hotel Katajanokka – for you and a friend with nerves of steel.
For 165 years, the building that now houses a cosy hotel was a prison. During the renovation, both the communal cell and the isolation cell were left untouched – and it’s said that several former inmates still linger here.
The most famous is Hella Wuolijoki, a former prisoner rumoured to roam the third floor, gazing out of the windows, still resentful of the punishment she once received.
Guests have reported doors opening and closing in the middle of the night, showers turning on by themselves, the unsettling sense of not being alone – and even someone stroking their hair while they sleep. Would you dare spend the night here?
