In the modern city of Skövde there is a lot to see and do. The Nordic region’s largest preserved gold treasure, Timboholmsskatten, was found just outside the city in 1904. Today a copy of the treasure can be seen at Skövde stadsmuseum (City Museum). On Hertig Johans Torg in central Skövde you can see gamla rådhuset (the Old Town Hall), Sankta Helena kyrka (church) and Livets brunn (the well of life). There are also several good restaurants and bars. In Skövde there is also the Billingen mountain with the Vallebygden, which has magnificent experiences of nature to offer all year round. Be sure to take a trip to Hornborgarsjön, one of Europe's most important bird lakes, which is about 40 minutes away by car. Skara Sommarland, Scandinavia's largest water park, is also very popular with families with children. The city also has a wide variety of concerts, theatre performances, opera and sports events - whatever your taste, age and budget, there is something for you to do in Skövde.
