1. Uppsala Cathedral

Uppsala Cathedral rises majestically above the River Fyris, which runs through the city. Among those buried here are King Gustav Vasa and the renowned scientist Carl Linnaeus. 2. Old Uppsala

Gamla Uppsala is one of Sweden’s most legendary and myth-shrouded sites. 5. Carolina Rediviva

Carolina Rediviva is Sweden’s oldest university library and home to the famous Silver Bible (Codex Argenteus) – a unique 6th-century manuscript and the main source of the now extinct Gothic language. The book is considered Sweden’s most valuable literary treasure and was inscribed on UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register in 2011. Here, history and knowledge come together in an extraordinary setting filled with stories between the shelves.

Opposite the cathedral stands Gustavianum – the oldest preserved building of Uppsala University. 8. Linnaeus’ Gardens

Carl Linnaeus truly put Uppsala on the world map, and his legacy can still be felt throughout the city. At Linnéträdgården – Sweden’s oldest botanical garden – you can stroll among plants that were cultivated as far back as the 18th century. Don’t miss The Botanical Garden, a lush oasis that was in fact designed by Linnaeus himself. The playground, located in Carolina Park, brings to life the beloved world of Gösta Knutsson’s stories – from Pelle’s attic to Gammel-Maja’s cathedral tower.
